How to Make An Essential Oils Aroma Stick

Updated: Aug 10, 2020

A fabulous way to carry around your essential oil is by creating your own aroma stick. The main benefit of using an aroma stick rather than an bottle of essential oil is that oils need to be heavily diluted and not applied directly on to the skin.

It is fun to create your own aroma sticks which can be used for a number of reasons depending on what essential oil you choose to use. Think of uplifting oils such as lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile for mood enhancers. Use Tea Tree or Citronella as an insect repellent. Chamomile is suitable for a lip balm.

You will need:

  • 100ml of oil such as Sweet Almond Oil

  • 5 lip balm sticks (natural not scented) I used Burt's Bees (remove the wax by pushing the bottom of the container all the way up)

  • 6 drops of essential oil

Tools:

Double Boiler

Tongs

Melt the wax and oil in the double boiler. Be ready for this and be extra careful because the liquid is very hot. Turn the heat off and immediately add the essential oil.

Once liquefied add 6 drops of your chosen essential oil. Using tongs, to hold the containers carefully pour the liquid back into the containers taking extreme care not to burn yourself.

Refrigerate to let the wax harden and use when needed.
