The Privilege of a lifetime is being who you are is a quote by Joseph Campbell and it really resonates with me. It resonates because I love myself not in a vain way, but self-love - an appreciation of all that is me.
When I was in my early 20's I began reading books on spirituality, law of attraction and positive mindset. So that's actually 30 years of knowledge that I have gained and experience so far in my life. I have also had many hard life lessons as well as many beautiful experiences. first book I read all those years ago was You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay which was a life changer for me.
Of all of these lessons there is one thing that I have come to learn and that is; I am a magnificent soul having a physical life experience. Sometimes I am not happy with my life experiences but mostly I am. Despite many failures in relationships and business I am still happy with who I am. In fact I like and love myself a lot and like I said that's not in a vain way. Not at all. I'm talking about a healthy love for who I am. It's about excepting who I am and not about what other people expect me to be in their eyes.
If people do not like who I am or what I do then that is their business, not mine. If people try and control me I rebel - a lot! It's probably one of the reasons that I've been self-employed for the last 13 years or so because I struggle being controlled by other people.
As a mother, I have never tried to mould my children into something I wanted them to be. Of course I've taught them manners and to be considerate of others, but I've always let them shine through their own personalities. If they have wanted to study and drop out that was always ok too, because growing up is about finding out who you are and what you want out of life. Growing up is also learning from mistakes.
So if you have self-doubts about who you are, or are being manipulated to be someone you are not, then it's time for you to start loving yourself and shining as the person you are. As they say, how can you love others if you do not love yourself.
